Rummikub - The Game That Can Be Frustrating As Well As Fun!

We received our first Rummikub set many years ago from two of my husband's aunts - the same aunts who first introduced us to the game one evening that ended up being a very late night for us all!

We called in on one of our aunts to discover that her sister was staying with her and they were about to play Rummikub which we hadn't heard of before.................. a few hours later and we've been beaten, but we've had a lot of fun (we've since discovered that both of them cheated, but we can forgive that as we've enjoyed many a night playing Rummikub since).

Rummikub is based on the card game called rummy, but instead of cards you play with tiles and you also start off with a much bigger hand! The next twist is that you have to make 30 the first time you lay down which can be quite frustrating if you have a low hand and everyone else is nearly out before you manage to lay down anything!

When we emigrated we left our Rummikub set (along with a number of other things) with my parents and we've since had plenty of nights enjoying the game with them and various aunts and uncles over the years and then along came out daughter. Our daughter is now 12 years old, but she still loves to play which is why we now have a set in our Australian home to play as well as enjoying playing whenever we're in New Zealand.

It's always great to play games as a family and when you're playing games like Rummikub it also helps your children think about strategy and helps their maths skills as well.   It can certainly get complicated to keep up with what's happening towards the end when people are trying to re-organize all of the 'sets' on the table in order to get out!

Highly recommended by every member of my family.

Unique Fantasy Chess Sets

Fantasy Chess Sets Make A Great Centerpiece

Dragon And Knight Medieval Chess Board Game Set Decor [Toy]Check Price
Although chess is a great game that has really stood the test of time it's the chess sets themselves that can become great talking points. The amazing chess sets that are on offer today mean that it's not just chess enthusiasts who are buying them - interior designers are also jumping on them!

I absolutely love the look of some chess sets and even my hubby (who is really not a chess player) is often caught looking at unique chess sets (especially dragon ones, I've noticed) and debating whether we should get one - he's thinking of just for display purposes however!

Fantasy chess sets look absolutely fabulous when left on display and are also great gifts for anyone who loves fairies, dragons or mythical creatures. I have compiled some of the best, unique fantasy chess sets available online just for you to look at right here.

Gods of Mythology Chess Set

From mythical kingdoms to the mythical Greek gods....

God's of Mythology Chess setCheck Price
Zeus is the King, presiding over the whole social order and Mount Olympus. He is the father of gods and men and the most important of his fellow deities.

Aphrodite, the goddess of love, daughter of Zeus, reigns as Queen.

Asklepios, the god of healing and medicine, son of Apollo, serves as Bishop.

The Knight is the Centaur, the strange part horse, part man creature very old in Greek legend.

The Corinthian column of the Classical order was selected as the rook to create balance in the set.

Pan, the gods of shepherds and countryside, represented with horns, legs of a goat and playing the pipes, serves as the pawn.

King Arthur Chess Sets

King Arthur, Merlin and Excalibur are the stuff that make fantasies and so it's only fitting to include a couple of King Arthur Chess Sets here.

The set includes the chess pieces only, not the board. The chess pieces are fashioned out of wizards and dragons, King Arthur and his round table knights - if you love the legend of Camelot then this chess set is one you'd love to own.

The second set I don't think looks as good, however it does have an advantage - it comes with it's own board! Let me know which one you prefer.

Dragon Chess Sets

Dragons really are the stuff of fantasy along with the knights to slay them of course! This beautiful dragon chess set would look stunning on display in your home.

I've selected three different Dragon Chess Sets for you to look at, the first two are stunning and definitely statement pieces that you'll want to keep on display. The third set is actually made up of Medieval knights, but the chess board itself is adorned with dragons and you can even lift the lid to put all of the chess pieces away after you've finished a game.

Dark World Chess Set

Enter a Dark Fantasy World at your own risk with this exquisite Dark World Chess Set!

This dark world chess set is sure to please!

It features twelve unique pieces each with their own exquisite detailing and coloring.

It only contains the figures themselves, but these chess pieces would make the cheapest of chess boards look worthy enough to display.

I particularly like the skulls that some of the figures are standing on - very Gothic feel to this chess set.

Harry Potter Chess Set

The fantasy chess sets continue with that young wizard - Harry Potter. This Harry Potter Chess Set is a recreation of the Final Challenge chess set from the first Harry Potter movie.

This set isn't quite as big however standing at a mere 2.5 to 5.5 inches in height!

So.....do you fancy a game of Wizard's Chess? This chess set would make a great gift for any Harry Potter fan especially one that enjoyed a game of chess!

Will You Be Buying a Fantasy Chess Set?

I think they make great gift ideas as well as being a really unique talking point in any room. Choosing a favorite is really hard though, but I think if pushed I'd select the Dragon Chess set that's featured in the introduction.
